The Benefits of Donating Blood

A part of our vocation as providers of in-home care services in Cinnaminson, New Jersey is educating our clients. Today, as we celebrate National Blood Donor Month, Neuron Health Systems will tackle the benefits of blood donation.

Many receivers of skilled nursing in New Jersey may require a blood transfusion, and that is why this topic is close to our hearts.

As home care providers, we list here the benefits of blood donation to donors:

  • Happiness and Longer Life
Aside from the positive feelings and sense of pride for saving other peoples’ lives, good health outcomes, lower risk of depression, and longevity are linked to blood donation.
  • Maintain Cardiovascular Health
Donating blood is beneficial in lowering the risks of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Stimulates Blood Cell Production
After donating blood, the body starts to replenish it, which causes the production of new blood cells.

Interested blood donors should be at least 18 years old, free from illnesses, especially colds and flu, be healthy with a minimum body weight of at least 50 kilograms, and with normal temperature and blood pressure.

If you are planning to donate blood, here are the dos and don’ts:

  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
It makes it easier to find your veins and prevents you from becoming light-headed after the process.
  • Don’t skip breakfast and snacks.
Eat well beforehand to easily tolerate the donation procedure.
  • Do stationary and fewer body movement exercises to lighten up your mood.
Get assistance from your personal care aide to identify which exercises are appropriate.

There is no age limit to be eligible for donating as long as you have no restrictions and limitations under companion care.
